About s3qm

The Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA)>, supported by the former Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority, commissioned the development of a new stormwater modelling tool to enable the assessment of water quality impacts of small scale developments. The small scale stormwater quality model (s3qm) was developed by BMT WBM Pty Ltd and Flow Matters to be consistent with eWater's MUSIC stormwater quality model for developments where the use of the MUSIC model is not warranted or cost-effective given the size of the development.

The s3qm enables a quick determination as to whether smaller proposed developments will have a neutral or beneficial effect on water quality in regards to stormwater (the NorBE test), or achieve the required pollutant load reduction targets in terms of percentage treatment train effectiveness. It helps proponents and their consultants specify and size suitable stormwater management measures to ensure water quality is adequately protected. s3qm also provides confidence to regulatory authorities that stormwater is appropriately managed for smaller developments.

Currently, the s3qm has included climate and parameters suitable for use in the SCA's drinking water catchments, and selected regions across the rest of NSW. For use of the model in other regions, the s3qm can be quickly and easily adapted to specific regions and localities where required.
